Facebook Marketplace for car dealerships: what to know before you start

$34,995

$27,800

Marketplace is not a dealer listing site with a back office; it is a local buy-and-sell space where your salespeople list cars from their own Facebook accounts. That shapes how a dealership should use it.

Listings belong to people, not the store

Each salesperson lists from their own account and gets the messages. That is good for the buyer (they talk to a person) and hard for the owner (nothing is visible). Decide early how you will see who posted what, which leads came in and whether they were answered: a shared spreadsheet, your CRM, or a tool like DealersGO's dealer dashboard.

Read Facebook's Commerce Policies

Marketplace listings must follow Facebook's Commerce Policies. In practice for vehicles: list real cars you have, at the real price, with real photos; do not post the same car again and again; and keep the listing accurate as things change. Facebook can limit or remove listings, and accounts, that do not.

Post at a human pace

Facebook looks for spam patterns. Posting dozens of listings in a few minutes from one account looks like one. Spread posting across the team and across the day, a few minutes apart.

Keep the lot in sync

Sold cars that stay listed generate messages you cannot answer well, and price changes that never reach Facebook make the listing wrong. Check listings against your inventory every day, or let your tools do it.

Groups and your Page

Local buy-and-sell groups and the dealership's own Facebook Page are good extra places for the same inventory. Only post in groups that allow vehicle listings, and follow each group's rules.

Measure it

Count listings per salesperson, messages and leads, how fast they were answered, and how many cars sold through Facebook. Without those numbers Marketplace stays a side project. See everything DealersGO tracks.

FAQ

Is Facebook Marketplace free for dealerships?

Listing vehicles on Marketplace is free. The cost is the salesperson time it takes to post and answer.

Can our listings be removed?

Yes, Facebook can remove listings that break its Commerce Policies, such as duplicate posts or inaccurate details. Accurate listings posted at a normal pace avoid most problems.
